Health Minister Tony Abbott in Parliament assured that the Federal Government would provide $47,000 as funding for the Children and District Health Service.

This money would help the community health care provider. This monetary support would help them operate through this difficult transitional period. Health services play a major and integral part of rural Australia and have no problems backing that up with financial support. Due to lack of funds the health service closed its 14-bed bush nursing hospital sacking 28 of its 30 employees. The hospital was losing almost $30,000 a month and running the health service close to insolvency.

The hospital needed a bulk amount of $94,000 from state and federal governments to reinvent the same services that it was providing to the local community. Colin Glanville said that without any help from the government the health services would survive for a maximum period of one, possibly two months and then it would be the end of the town’s general practice. He then welcomed the involvement and support of the government. He said that it would help them create a viable health service to meet the future needs of Children.
