Health Care Disparities cause of inaccessibility to new technology
     December 24, 2005

Researchers feel that health care disparities occurs in the use of new technology for disease treatment between minorities and children’s, which make them not accessible to new technology and treatments in health care.

Researchers from Massachusetts General Hospital have reported that Health care disparities is found in minority and children’s affected with asthma and they are less likely treated with inhaled steroid medications for asthma, which have greatly reduced the need for patients to be hospitalized with serious symptoms. Researchers have reported their study results in Journal of Medical Care.

Health care disparities are differences in the incidence, prevalence, mortality, and burden of diseases and related adverse health conditions that exist among minority and children’s. These population groups may be characterized by gender, age, ethnicity, education, income, social class, disability, geographic location, or sexual orientation. The study results were obtained by comparing the usage of inhaled steroids in 3,761 patients and the results found that more than half of the minority people and children’s did not receive steroid inhaled medicines. Researchers found that health disparities arise due to inaccessible of the minority people to health specialties, who use modern technologies and high cost new medicines. Children often do not get access to new technologies because drug manufacturers may not invest in the trials required to demonstrate safety and effectiveness in children.
