Fragmentation - the Epidemic Disease of Computers
     October 25, 2007

Industry expert, B. Boyers, reveals the epidemic disease that is fragmentation as can be seen in a recent PCWorld article on computer essentials. The insidious disease of hard disk file fragmentation is still very much alive and infectious.

Every hard drive suffers from file fragmentation as a result of the flawed operating system.

As files are created, saved and edited, parts of each file are saved wherever free space is available plaguing the computer's landscape. This file storage system slowly seizes your computer's ability to operate as it becomes a longer more difficult process for the read head to locate each fragment.

Thus impatient computer users are left to watch their computer crash and burn during crucial times of operation.

For some time, the only solution to file fragmentation was to perform a backup and restore on each and every hard drive. This arduous task had to be undertaken when users were not on the system--which meant the majority of IT personnel were working nights and weekends. This was until the ultimate vaccine was created, the defragmenter.

The defragmenter is a unique solution that collects all of the fragments and puts them back together again.

Defragging the hard drive restores the disk to create whole files and chucks of free-space. At the end of the day, IT personnel could finally go home to their families.

But unfortunately, as technology evolved and the operating systems became more complex, the fragmentation disease got worse.

With multi-Gigahertz microprocessors and large multi-media libraries, files became more fragmented than ever before. Now files can fragment into hundreds, thousands, even tens of thousands of tiny fragmented pieces causing system performance and stability problems like never before.

Manual defragmentation--the disk-by-disk running of a defragmenter--has become an archaic menial solution.

For many years, scheduled defragmentation, with which IT personnel could set defragmenters to run at certain times, seemed to be the answer, but with the complexity of today's technology, this to is become grown out of date.

Now there are intelligent automatic third-party solutions available that can defragment in real-time saving your computer from every threatening attempt to infect you computer.

Regular defragmentation reduces user waiting time, improves new technologies, prevents unnecessary hardware upgrades and reduces help desk calls, ultimately resulting in a huge ROI for the enterprise.
