Care UK to Provide Community-Based Health and Social Care Services
     May 27, 2006

Care UK is a private company and was set up in 1994 in London. It mainly runs care homes and private hospitals. It has accepted to provide health care facility free of cost to NHS patients under the terms of the three-year contract. It would provide General Practitioners for 7,000 patients and employ 3 doctors and 7 nurses. It has won a £5m contract to run GP services in London.

The deal has been signed by local NHS chiefs. United Health Europe which is part of a US firm was initially selected but the contract has been held up by a legal challenge by a local resident. This walk-in centre is likely to handle about 100 patients a day. Similarly such deals are to be signed in many places. Paul Sinden, from Barking and Dagenham PCT, said that this facility would help the existing arrangement a helping hand. Mike Parish, chief executive of Care UK said that they would set a new dimension to the community-based health and social care services.
